Maurizio Barbetti - Viola

After the Diploma in Viola Maurizio Barbetti attended the Darmstadt Ferienkurse studying with Stefan Georghiu and Irvine Arditti ; the latter also awarded him the Darmstadt Preis in 1992.


In the same year, he also won the International Award of interpretation Iannis Xenakis in Paris. He played the Irish premiere of "Chemins II" by Berio for viola and orchestra with the Orchestra of Radio Television of Dublin directed by Friedrich Goldmann (the director of " Prometheus " by Luigi Nono ). The concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 .

Maurizio Barbetti is particularly attentive to the production of contemporary music. Important composers from around the world have dedicated works for viola to him, including Paul Mèfano , Ennio Morricone, Luis de Pablo and Horatiu Radulescu . Ennio Morricone has performed and recorded the world premiere of his concerto for viola and orchestra with him, Luis de Pablo recently premiered the song "Anatomias" for viola and ensemble at the Centro Reina Sofia in Madrid.
